Jigsaw, The National Centre for Youth Mental Health, and Mayden – the creators of iaptus, the leading electronic health record (EHR) for psychological therapies in the UK – have joined forces to support children’s mental health services in Ireland.
Jigsaw is the only primary care youth mental health service provider in Ireland for young people aged 12-25, offering both online and in person support and advice. They give families, schools, and those who support young people’s mental health ways to cope and the skills to be there for young people. Using their knowledge and expertise, they also advocate on behalf of young people and their families to ensure that youth mental health is a national and local priority.
The demand for mental health services is increasing. A recent review of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in Ireland published by the Mental Health Commission found that they “cannot currently provide an assurance to all parents or guardians in all parts of Ireland that their children have access to a safe, effective and evidenced-based mental health service”. Recommendations for improvements have been made, but this is only part of the picture. Jigsaw recognises the need to extend its reach to meet the mental health needs of more young people than ever before and work for better mental health outcomes.
Mayden was a natural fit as a partner to help support these ambitions. iaptus currently supports children and young people’s mental health services in the NHS and the voluntary sector in England to manage the support they provide across education and community settings. A key component of Jigsaw’s 2022-25 strategy is to improve outcomes for children and young people through data driven insights, and this is something that Mayden, through its iaptus EHR, has been pioneering since 2008.
iaptus is currently used by 70 providers of children and young people’s services, supporting around 60,000 referrals of children and young people per year to early intervention support in schools and NHS community services. As a complete digital care record, it enables practitioners to set goals with young people and routinely record progress and outcomes in sessions.

Jigsaw was looking for a system to support their ambitious programme of transformation in how they deliver services, collect better information on the effectiveness of those services and inform the team where they can put their efforts in order to have the greatest impact to meet their mission of supporting young people. In the future, Jigsaw is looking to offer young people and their families a more diverse range of clinical services and help them to access additional digital and online resources to support their mental health. Jigsaw carried out a comprehensive public procurement process to select an EHR and provider that was a good fit with their needs and values. Jigsaw was impressed with Mayden’s strong and long track record of operating the iaptus EHR in the UK and its wide industry experience of working with healthcare services.
