Healthcare applications developer, Mayden, has announced that SilverCloud Health will be the first service provider to offer access to online psychological therapies via Mayden’s new referral hub, Prism.
In 2014 Mayden won backing from the government’s Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) to develop a hub – Prism – that would allow professionals working within the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) programme to refer suitable patients to a range of services offered by online therapy providers, with data about the outcomes being sent directly back to the patient’s secure NHS record.
The concept is built on Mayden’s existing patient management platform for IAPT – iaptus. By offering clinicians the option to refer patients to online therapy it is anticipated that capacity issues and waiting lists could be dramatically reduced in clinics, while at the same time offering patients faster access to high quality online therapy services to accelerate their treatment and recovery.
With SilverCloud Health becoming the first online therapy provider to make its services available via Prism, the pilot can now be conducted in real time, with real patients, generating real results that can be fully analysed to assess the impact of Prism on patient treatment and waiting times.
Operations Director at Mayden, Chris Eldridge, is confident that Prism can cause a sea-change in the way that psychological therapies are accessed and managed. He commented: “We know that IAPT services are under continuous and increasing pressure as the number of patients presenting with mental health conditions continues to grow year on year. With waiting times under increasing scrutiny, shortages of capacity within services are compounding the problem. By offering IAPT clinicians the choice to refer suitable patients to online therapy, and to then feed results directly back into the patient’s record, we anticipate that Prism will be able to leverage a significant increase in uptake of online therapy capacity, and significantly alleviate these pressures. We will be able to really test the efficacy of Prism with SilverCloud and we’re delighted to have them on board.”
Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust will be the pilot service for Prism. Clinical Director, Judith Chapman explains, “IAPT services are under increasing pressure to provide clinically effective and efficient treatments. We’re committed to delivering quality treatments and giving patients greater choice and flexibility through online therapy. The integration of SilverCloud with Prism provides greater service efficiencies, increases clinical hours for PWPs and enables analysis of outcomes data across systems.”
SilverCloud Health shares Mayden’s objectives. “As we scale, one of our priorities is to make the SilverCloud platform as accessible and adaptable for providers as possible,” said Ken Cahill, CEO. “We are delighted to be the first adopter of Prism, which will help to reduce administration while enhancing IT and data security associated with healthcare systems integration for IAPT service providers.”
