Salary: £350.00 - £450.00 per day (£45.00 - £60.00 per hour)

Location: Online

Are you a data scientist or machine learning developer searching for a new challenge? Join us at iO Academy as a part-time trainer.

You’ll teach our part-time data science and machine learning bootcamp to classes of around 12 trainees, helping them re-skill into data analytics, data science or machine learning roles. The course is delivered live online over 12 weeks with the weekly teaching time consisting of seven hours split across three evenings; so this is a role that could be balanced with an existing full time job. We are looking for someone to join us on a rolling contract basis to run the course regularly throughout the year.

As a machine learning trainer you’ll mainly focus on teaching classes but will also work alongside our other iO trainers to help keep the curriculum up-to-date as well as preparing and developing course content. Above all else, we need someone with in-depth, real world experience in data science and/or machine learning, who is enthusiastic about helping others land their dream tech job.

About you

You’ll have worked as a professional data scientist or machine learning developer and have gained a deep understanding of data analysis, statistical methods and machine learning. You will have helped support others with problem solving and be happy explaining complex ideas in easy-to-digest ways. You will have experience with Python and the use of statistical computing software.

The pre-existing course curriculum spans foundational maths and statistics, data analysis, visualisations, cleaning data, linear algebra, machine learning model selection, optimisation and application to a range of real world datasets. It will be essential that you are confident in at least a handful of these aspects, and keen to fill in the gaps for any parts you have not yet mastered. The course also touches on the use of Git and Github, AWS and Tableau.

Ideally you’ll have experience teaching, training or mentoring others, and be confident delivering content to groups of learners and clearly explaining complex concepts. It’s vital that you’re a friendly, motivated team player who wants to help people. We’re all about changing lives, and hope you are too!

Student Experience Coordinator – About the role:

We’re iO Academy, an award-winning technology training provider and coding bootcamp. We’re looking for a motivated person with stacks of enthusiasm, an eye for detail and a talent for getting things organised to join our team as our Student Experience Coordinator.

Working from our office in Bath, you’ll be the first point of contact for email and phone enquiries, coordinate student applications and onboarding, organise events, and generally help to ensure the academy keeps running smoothly.

We’re a growing company and are looking for someone that will grow with us. We have a flat structure and work together to share the responsibilities that managers traditionally have, so you’ll have plenty of support from the rest of the team and opportunities to carve your own path.

Student Experience Coordinator – key responsibilities:

  • Customer service – Responding to incoming phone and email enquiries, assisting with applicant assessments, onboarding new students and providing ongoing assistance during their course.
  • Office admin – Collection and reporting of key data and stats, calendar management and providing administrative support to Academy trainers and staff.
  • Buildings and facilities – working with our buildings manager to ensure the academy is suitably equipped and maintained.
  • Events – Helping organise and run course graduations, networking meetups and other events (this may include occasional evenings or weekends).

About you as a Student Experience Coordinator:

You’ll be looking for a role that you can make your own with plenty of opportunity to learn and gain new skills. You’ll enjoy meeting new people, have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to deliver great customer service in a friendly and professional manner. We’re a small team so a positive and proactive attitude is essential.

Your specific professional experience isn’t important but you may have previously worked as a customer service advisor, admin assistant, office administrator, receptionist, front of house team member or in similar customer-facing roles.

You’ll need to be happy multitasking, have good organisational and administrative skills and know your way around Google docs or Microsoft Office. You don’t need to be a ‘techy’ person or know anything about programming but curiosity or interest in the industry is definitely a bonus.

At Mayden we are looking for a highly motivated and experienced ETL and Data Migration Specialist to join our Data Teams.  You will help us to expand our data reporting and analytics offering for users of our market leading patient management system, iaptus.  Additionally, you will support new customers by ensuring their historical data comes with them when they switch from other platforms.

  • Handling of multiple different and evolving datasets for existing and new markets
  • Migrating new data from a variety of different systems into our market leading product, a patient management system called iaptus
  • Self-management of projects, co-working with the team’s Product Owner to plan resources
  • Scoping new projects and estimating timescales for completion of the work.

What we are looking for:

  • Hands-on experience in developing ETL solutions (e.g. Talend, Alteryx)
  • In-depth knowledge of SQL and relational databases
  • Knowledge of Git or other source control software
  • Experience of working closely with clients and communicating regular updates to stakeholders
  • Experience of working to deadlines and handling concurrent projects
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex data problems
  • A keenness for sharing knowledge and learning with other team members

Additionally, the following would be advantageous:

  • Exposure to agile methodologies and principles, preferably in a scrum framework
  • Experience with coding (e.g. Python, R, Java)

  • Experience of working with national datasets

About you as an ETL and Data Migration Specialist:

  • You enjoy solving logical problems
  • You have a strong attention to detail
  • You have excellent prioritisation and self-organisation skills
  • You’re adaptable and able to facilitate continuous improvement
  • You’re a true team player with excellent communication skills
  • You are self-driven and will embrace getting to grips with complex new data and specifications
  • You can take the initiative in a flat structure company

How we work

We have a flat structure, which means that teams and individuals make their own decisions, manage their own workloads and set their own goals. Our values – transparency, collaboration, contribution and forward thinking – are the cornerstones of our work.

Our teams, including the Data Team in which this role will be based, embrace agile values and principles, using the scrum framework to deliver value and drive continuous improvement.

Benefits

We love that the work we do makes a difference, changing what’s possible for clinicians and patients. We have been growing steadily year on year, and offer a phenomenal working environment, exciting opportunities to learn new skills and an excellent package of benefits, including:

  • life assurance
  • private health insurance
  • pension (enhanced after successful completion of probation)
  • personal training and conference budget
  • onsite gym
  • parking, including EV charging points
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (with the option to buy or sell annual leave after probation is completed)

Location and hours

This role is full time, 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday.

Collaboration is one of our four company values – we work best together. We believe there is significant benefit from working face to face when doing so. At the same time, some work may be carried out just as effectively alone and away from the office. We have therefore created a flexible ‘place of work’ policy that asks everyone to be where the work of the day is best.

This means there are no fixed days when you should be in the office or can work at home. In any given week you may need to work from the office everyday or no days! It all depends on the work being done and you are expected to be flexible. Many people find this approach means they work in the office 3 or more days a week but this varies according to role and the work they have to do.

Our Place of Work policy is available on request.

You must be eligible to live and work in the UK.

This role is not eligible for sponsorship by Mayden for a skilled worker visa.  We are therefore unable to accept applications from individuals who would require an employer to sponsor them for a work permit.

To apply

Please upload your CV and covering letter. Within your covering letter please specifically tell us:

– what you’re passionate about and what you would bring to the role, and to Mayden

– what you recognise within your skill set that fits with this role

– how you feel the flat structure way of working at Mayden would suit your style of working.

We are anticipating a lot of interest in this exciting role and we will be reviewing applications as soon as they come in, so please apply as soon as possible.

Salary: £35,000 - £60,000 pa, depending on experience

Location: Bath, Oldfield Park

About us

Mayden is a growing software company, awarded Development Team of the Year at the 2018 UK IT Industry awards. We’re looking for experienced developers to join the team.

At Mayden we produce healthcare apps, mainly for supporting the recovery of people with mental health issues. We love that the work we do makes a difference, changing what’s possible for clinicians and patients.

We offer a phenomenal working environment, exciting opportunities to learn new skills and an excellent package of benefits including private health insurance and pension.

How we work

As a development team we work closely together, pair programming, white-boarding and architecting as a team and peer reviewing every line of code. We have fun while we work and are passionate about technology. We work in an agile way, using the Scrum framework to regularly deliver value to our customers.

We have a flat structure at Mayden. Our team members work together to share the responsibilities that managers would traditionally have. Nobody tells you how to do your job, we’re all here to support each other, not get in each other’s way.

The development team works with the product owner team to prepare work for sprints, we work with our account managers to give our customers the best possible experience, and we work with our ops team to make sure our apps are stable and running well.

Skills and experience

Our current tech stack includes (but isn’t limited to) PHP, Slim Framework, JavaScript, React and MySQL, but we don’t need you to have experience with these specifically, as long as you have commercial experience with other modern programming languages.

You should be able to demonstrate your experience with MVC frameworks and/or modern JavaScript frameworks.

Here are some other things that are important to us and our customers, you don’t have to have experience in all of these, just a willingness to learn:

  • Accessibility best practices and standards when working on the front end
  • Testing frameworks
  • Software design best practices
  • Source control, specifically Git

Successful candidates will:

• be passionate about the work we do as well as the technology we use
• enjoy working closely with both technical and non technical colleagues
• be comfortable with pair programming and with code being peer reviewed
• take a positive and proactive approach to problem solving both with their team and the wider company
• be keen to learn as well as to contribute to the development of others
• be comfortable working through problems with a team

Benefits

We offer a great working environment with an excellent package of benefits including:
• monthly developer lunches (we’ll bring the pizza)
• quarterly hack days
• personal training budget for professional development
• free onsite gym
• company pension
• 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (with the option to buy or sell annual leave after probation is completed)
• private health insurance
• life assurance
• free onsite parking

This role will be based in our offices in Oldfield Park, Bath. We work best together and believe there is significant benefit from working face to face for the work and working relationships. As a general guideline,  we believe it would be difficult to maintain effective communication if you are in the office for less than half of your working time. This has informed our approach to our place of work policy, which allows for some working at home depending on the needs of the business and teams.

To apply for the Software Developer role

Please upload your CV and covering letter. Tell us what you’re passionate about and what you would bring to the Software Developer team, and to Mayden.

If this role isn’t for you, but you like the sound of working at Mayden, please keep checking our website for more great opportunities coming soon.

You must be eligible to live and work in the UK.
